They are used to protect areas that may be subject to any danger e.g. falling from a height, the most common danger that many workers are subsequent to during their time working on a roof of substantial height.

There are 3 main types of temporary edge protection that are all available to hire these are made up of:

  • Flat roof Guardrail Edge Protection
  • Floor Slab Guardrail Edge Protection
  • Parapet Guardrail Edge Protection

Flat roof guardrail:

This is the temporary protection that is available in which there is a free-standing system for flat roof application only, where there is no physical connection between the guardrail and the roof. This is used as it is enables the site workers to work under and around the guardrail without having to remove any parts that make up the roofing system, ensuring maximum safety, it also can adapt to using toe boards if needed to eliminate any potential trip hazards that may cause any form of danger.

Floor slab guardrail:

The floor slab guardrail is used commonly for slabs that are up to 500mm deep, but are also used for slabs that are up to 1000mm deep. The floor slab guardrail is used for roof edge protection hire to prevent any danger that may occur during construction work that is being held on a roof of considerable height. It can be connected to handrails and toe boards to prevent from any tripping hazards. It also withstands any harsh weather conditions that may have caused the floor slab guardrail to rust or break in any way.

Parapet Guardrail:

The parapet guardrail is a very popular method of temporary roof edge protection hire, as it a safe and secure method of providing your roof and the people working within it with maximum safety, however this will only prove effective if the parapet guardrail is at least 1100mm in height. The parapet guardrail is effective for temporary roof edge protection hire, as it does not penetrate the roofs membrane, keeping the roof in tact and therefore not damaging the warranty of said roof, because of this it also requires no welding or bolting during the installation process, keeping the components needed for its installation at a minimum, making it easy to install temporarily.

It is also suitable for a range of roof materials, such as PVC, Felt, Concrete or Asphalt, allowing this particular method of protection to be used widely on all roofs, this is also effective on roofs of different heights, as it can be used on roofs with a slant up to 10 degrees. It also can be reconfigured when needed, if for any reason any of the sections need to be removed or added.
